Natasha Hoban, british intern at the mid day, finds the shyness of Indian men endearing

So things were looking bad and I became apprehensive about my next male encounter. However, as time went by I realized that my first experience was a rare glitch. If anything, a lot of Indian men are shy compared to some of the bolshy, arrogant, self-interested suede headed Brits. While at first this shyness is awkward and uncomfortable, it is quickly overcome and becomes rather, an endearing quality. After all, isn't it usual that when something is a struggle the best results are produced at the end of it? From my experience it is the slightly older men that are shy. I've had various chats with friendly auto-rickshaw drivers but at the same time have come across those so shy they could barely look me in the eye.u00a0

In terms of looks every country has its shockers, but India has a remarkable number of attractive men. In statistical terms, I might chance upon one average-looking man in a month in England. In India there will be at least two eye-catchingly handsome guys on the radar per day. Which is wow! And, what is best about it is they don't try really hard with their clothes and haircuts to get a 'look', they just appear naturally attractive.

Facial hair only grows as whispy goat tufts on a lot of British men, in fact some women have been known to be better at growing beards. This, thankfully, does not seem to be a general problem for Indian men.

It is also pleasing to see that most don't bother with hair gel. Why would you want to make your hair look greasy? That is something I'll never understand. It is not just the dark eyes and features that are appealing but the bone structure and warmth in peoples faces. British men wouldn't be seen dead walking hand in hand with another guy because showing affection is like some kind of crime to them. Back home it's all about the game.

Guys will have girls wrapped around their fingers, getting what they want when they want. Here it seems more possible for the women to be in control. Expressing feeling is a huge difficulty for British men and in my opinion causes a lot of relationship problems.

The most significant note I have to make is that Indian men are gentlemen. I thought the age of chivalry was dead until I came to India. Rather than sitting at home trying to live my life through Pride and Prejudice whilst binging on Ben and Jerry's and getting depressed that such realities can not exist in Britain, Indian men have brought some hope to the surface.
