We agree, tattoos are past their prime. But the ink doesn't seem to lose its lure. So despite the pain, we find people queuing up at tattoo parlours. And this one is for those who love the thrill and pain. And in town is a tattoo artist who has given celebrities pain and pleasure in equal measure with his tattoos. An 11-day tattoo festival has started in a city hotel where celebrity tattoo artist Sameer Patange will be inking those who want it.
Sameer Patange draws a pattern on Kangana Ranaut
Patange, who has inked the likes of Kangana Ranaut, Sanjay Dutt, Urmila Matondkar and Sushmita Sen, used to be a vocalist with a band. Becoming a tattoo artist was 'accidental', he says. So what's hot in the tattoo scene now? "Previously people wanted a tattoo because it looked bold and fashionable. But not anymore.
Today people are very specific about what they want and it's not just the younger generation but the older generation too. I have a lot of clients who are in their early 70s and they know exactly what (tattoo) they want," he says.
Tattooing, says Patange, is no easy job. "And doing tattoos for celebrities is the toughest as there is no space for mistake. You can't afford to go even a little wrong as they can easily create a hue and cry about it and your career is finished. But for me it has always been an awesome experience," says Patange. So those of you who want to get inked, there couldn't have been a better opportunity. Get set with the design of your choice.
