She has a cause. She is anti-ironing
Sohiny Das, 26, works for a fashion/lifestyle magazine
Like any diligent school girl, Sohiny Das had to make sure her uniform was squeaky clean, neatly ironed, every single day of 10 academic years at GD Birla School in Kolkata. Maids may have been at hand, but her
mother hoped she'd learn the ropes of being an immaculate lady on her own. "I got tired of ironing clothes every single day, and began sporting anti-iron clothing like tees and jeans when I was done at school," she recalls.
But like a defiant ghost, ironing returned to haunt her when she enrolled at the London College of Fashion, where she was required to iron every single pleat and drape of garments she designed. "I decided I was going to make anti-ironing a part of my personality. I chose slouchy styling, which proved forgiving to my figure and was low maintenance. I prefer wearing organic clothes; it gives strength to my cause," she smiles. Working for a fashion magazine in Mumbai, is a double-edged sword. "It's demanding. You will be scrutinised and held accountable for an insignificant crease, or applauded for being individualistic if you are lucky. The key is to carry off the style without coming across as frumpy." The trick, says Sohiny, is to choose the right fabric. She recommends polyester, cottons and silks.
