It's raining fashion

Either you love Mumbai during the rains, or you simply hate it. Especially if you have to wade through puddles of muck to reach work, and have to dodge vehicles spraying dirty rainwater all over pedestrians. Fashion is the last thing on your mind in the rains. But working on a monsoon wardrobe is going to help you pull yourself out of those hazy grey moods. Big Break gives you some tips:

Jumpsuits to the rescue
For women, jumpsuits in different lengths echo a rainy feel. Especially those cinched at the waist or any other silhouette with the mid waist accentuated is chic this season. Aladdin pants similar to the ones adorned by Sonam Kapoor in Delhi 6 in knee length or full length are part of monsoon trends. It is highly recommended that you add colour to the otherwise grayscale look outside.

Brighten up
Different hues such as dark green shades, lilac, lemon yellow, fuchsia pink and soft pastel pink, peach and citrus helps brighten the air. Beige with multi-colors, indigo, green and black are great for formals. Many designers are experimenting with jungle prints for monsoon. Also in colours, neutral palettes or muddy colours in green, pink, chrome yellows with bright, eclectic accessories are in vogue.

In your jeans
Go in for calf length denims and 'jeggings' (jeans morphed into leggings) as they are popularly know in the fashion circle. They do a lot for skinny forms (especially the leggings) making it compact and look great with kurtas or long shirts as well. Large sleeves are in fashion.

Cool cottons
In fabrics, mul, voil and blended cotton can be used as they can be easily dried in the wet season and are more hygienic. Bombay tends to get muggy during the rains, so pure cotton is a good bet.

The long and short of it
Select from tweed shorts, punk style shorts, high-waisted shorts and hot pants, depending on occasion and personal style. You can match these shorts with a variety of stylish tops. Paparazzo pants teamed with tank tops can be a good addition to your monsoon wardrobe.u00a0 Denims are an all-time favourite when paired with trendy t-shirts. Polka dots on tops also seem like fun in the rains.

Feet fundas
In shoes, invest in throwaways this season as expensive footwear will simply get spoilt. Crocs or Indian flip-flops are a great choice for the season. Use exotic printed or painted umbrellas with abstract designs of cities and architectural design imprints. They have to be large and with wooden handles for the complete monsoon look.
