With a shopaholic buddy in tow, we trailed into OVS industry on a day when the finicky clouds couldn't quite make up their mind. Shielding ourselves from a sudden shower, we stepped into the roomy confines of OVS, where shocking bursts of flowers on what looked like elastic granny pants, welcomed us. Not a good first sight, we thought. But we held our horses.
Divided into three levels, OVS is a joint venture of Italian fashion house Oviesse and desi textile brand S Kumars. The ground level introduces you to the Baby Angel line designed by Italian fashion icon Elio Fiorucci. 
While their flower power didn't strike a chord with us, we spotted a few winners on the lower level. A derriere-hugging mini denim skirt (Rs 1,199) was quickly snapped up by the enthused friend, though the ruffled white shirt we wished to flaunt at our imaginary board meetings had to be placed back on the rack. Rs 1,799 for that white queen is a total no-no, but that's our meagre purse strings speaking.
Quite a few women will find their mana on this level ufffd there are just two or may be three varieties in shoes, but we loved the tan faux leather ankle-length sandals. You might as well give a miss to the totally unglamorous bags, but dig around inside the accessory racks for an occasional loud but fun ring and a pretty pair of snowflake earrings. But we are sure that we have spotted earrings similar to the smiley ones here on the local train. The formal section has a couple of nice work dresses but boring shirts, while the ground level has denims starting at Rs 599. We would've ideally been very excited about the Disney collection but the Minnie and Daffy Duck tees (Rs 899) came replete with studs. Just not our style.
The men's section on the upper level surprised us, with neat graphic prints on tees (Rs 599 onwards), a couple of waistcoats (Rs 1,799), a few fedora hats scattered all over and bags that no man we know would carry, but good-looking ones nonetheless. Denims for men start at Rs 899, and a section towards the rear endu00a0 stocks formal shirts in various colour schemes, paired with ties.
Italy and haute couture have an intricate connection. OVS might not figure in the brands that crop up in our mind when we think of Italian fashion, but back in Mumbai, we know that it will help us maintain our bella figura: the Italian phrase for making a good impression.
