Discipline must be consistent
Dr Vandana Tara Consultant clinical psychologist at VIMHANS

Parents must be role models for their kids. Kids mirror their folks, so set an example for them to follow. Do not give in to your kids' pleas, tears, demands or pouting. He/she will learn to respect you more if you mean what you say.
How to do it?
>> Don't compensate for physical and emotional absence with
materialistic things.
>> Try to involve the child in different activities to make sure he/she is not sitting in front of the tele or surfing the net all day.

Communicating is the key
Mini Mathur Actor-Anchor

Communicating with your kids is a very important aspect of parenting. If you spend quality time with your kids then most of the things are taken care of. My six-year-old son Vivaan gets a toy only when he has to be rewarded and he gets only one at a time. This way he learns how to value things. From my experience, I can say, this has worked wonders for me.

There has to be a fine division of the child's time. My five-year-old son has a fixed time for studies, games and extra-curricular activities. This way the kid learns to be organised and focused.

Indu Pandey Media professional
Make your child understand that he/she is not going to get whatever he/she demands. This helps them value money and people. In the current scenario, I talk to my kids about recession so that they understand the global crisis.
