The Guide gives you a lowdown on the puppy and kitten adoption camp over the weekend

If you love puppies and kittens, head to the puppy and kitten adoption camp, organised by the People for Animals (PFA) and the Jeevraksha Support Group. PFA is the animal lovers group that was started in 1994 by Maneka Gandhi. "This is a first-time event. We have involved animal welfare organisations, animal lovers and even vets," said Jitesh Jotwani, an active volunteer. "The objective is to get more stray puppies and kittens adopted. They have a miserable time, especially during the monsoons. They die on the roads very often due to accidents or gastroinstestinal ailments," he added.

According to Jotwani, if people adopt these stray animals, the population remains in control, otherwise, they multiply very fast on the roads. In fact, cats multiply more than dogs.u00a0 "We're indirectly helping society to reduce the number of stray animals on the roads. We want to communicate this to people so that we have more people adopting Indian stray puppies and kittens."

Some of the benefits of adopting a stray dog / kitten is that they can adapt to the Indian weather, and they are also immune to many diseases. At the event, there will be counseling sessions as well. "We will only give the animal to lovers who are willing to give a 15 year commitment (because that is the time frame involved in a pet-owner relationship)," concludes Jitesh.
