After consistent rumours about Maruti Suzuki postponing the launch of the Ignis to 2017, the carmaker has clarified that the launch is on schedule and that they never delayed its scheduled launch. Showcased at this years' Delhi Auto Expo, the Ignis will be the first under-4 metre SUV from the carmaker to be sold in India. That said, India will become the second country after Japan to get the Ignis.

Not surprisingly, it will be retailed through the premium dealership of Maruti, the Nexa. This will be the third Maruti car to be sold through Nexa outlets, after the Baleno and the S-Cross.
Adorned with contemporary styling, the Ignis carries practical features like high ground clearance, large rear windshield, robust design, projector headlamps and commanding road view. Apart from this, it has neatly designed front profile, daytime running LEDs, flared wheel arches and blackened B-pillars. It gets large split tail lamps, rear bumper cladding and thick C-pillars. Still, the rear profile isn't really the angle to look at the Ignis.
Coming to the dimensions of the Maruti vehicle, in comparison to the KWID's 1579mm width, it's less wide – measuring 1478mm, though, in the height section, it beats the Renault car by 101mm! The overall length of both the cars stands same at 3679mm.
The Ignis is likely to be offered with a 1.0-litre BoosterJet petrol engine and will be mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. With respect to diesel offering, there's still no official word but it could be added at a later stage.
This segment, which was started by the Renault KWID and later carried forward by the Mahindra KUV100, is certain to witness some cool offerings in the coming years, courtesy our growing inclination towards macho vehicles.
