There will be several worlds playing out on loop at The Guild this weekend. Instead of art works adorning its walls, the art gallery has been metamorphosised into a space for visual treats of another kind, through a Video and Animation Fest.

A still from Aditi Chitre's The Mall on the Top of my House which is a story
of Mumbai's coastal community

12 artists have got together to display their video works that will showcase subjects ranging from a Naga girl who is haunted by the ghost of a woman in a red shawl (Aditi Chitre's animated short: Journey to Nagaland) to perceived realities and dream narratives (Iram Ghurfan's There is Something in The Air), from the challenges faced by a man who takes a bioscope to villages in Kerala (KM Madhusudhanan's feature film Bioscope) to an Indian folktale that explores a dream-like relationship between a young lady and a tree (Bloom by Srinivas Bhakta).

Other exhibiting artists include Gigi Scaria, Kavita Singh Kale, Neha Thakar, Pooja Iranna, Riyas Komu, Samia Singh, Shakuntala Kulkarni and Vidya Kamat.

"With the collapsing boundaries between different art genres, more interdisciplinary practices get space and appreciation in the field of visual arts as a part of the general cultural production," says art critic JohnyML who is curating this project. "The galleries today are aware of this fact and they have started facilitating such works of art and projects. However, in India, exclusive video and animation projects are still not in vogue."
