Millions of Indians, whose very first mobile was a Nokia phone, to them the nostalgia is about to hit again. Nokia is one mobile brand in India that has the largest residual brand equity and brand loyalty since the last decade.
Nokia had a 70% market share in India in 2008. However, its inability to cope up with upcoming trends like dual-sim phones and decision to launch Windows phone was supposedly the reasons for the company to go down to near-extinction. India is the world’s fastest growing smartphone market and this time it will be crucial for Nokia to make and sell new smartphones for the next decade. Already a lot new variants of smartphones have hit the Indian market. Android phones under the ever-recognizable Nokia brand which will be available from June 2017 will be another introduction in the market.
Nokia till now leads the feature phones segment in many countries. It has a significant global foothold in America, China, Middle East, India, Europe and Africa. It now aims to launch the all-new Android smartphones in all these markets at one go. Nokia’s entry may give a tough time and high competition to Indian market leader, Samsung Electronics. Premium Nokia Android smartphones are expected to fill the gap that was created some years ago.
