Zombies are a big deal now. Even when they weren't, you had the protagonist Frank West battling them in the first Dead Rising, way back in 2006. The last version of the game, Dead Rising 4, released in 2016 on everything except Sony consoles. A year later, Capcom has tweaked and released Dead Rising 4 for the PS4 with all the DLC content and some new and interesting additions.

You take on the role of Photo Journalist Frank West who has once again found his way to the Willamette, Colorado where, despite the cure-all vaccine, the zombie uprising is back. The story mode is actually very good and includes a nice tutorial that tells you how to craft items and play the game. The story is also a lot more serious than you would expect, considering all the silliness you can get up to with the combat.

The combat, like in all Dead Rising games, is the standout feature. You have a whole load of weapons at your disposal and, if push comes to shove, you can even use your fists to take down the zombies. The weapon crafting happens on the fly, unlike the previous games where you would need to locate a workbench. Just select the items you want to make a combo with and select combo. New combos can be discovered by finding blueprints.

You can also buy and use vehicles. However, the vehicles don't feel right in the game, it feels almost like they are floating around. The same can be said for most of the controls though. They almost seem a little off. For example, while fighting bare knuckled, Frank seems sluggish and possibly drunk.

The maps are also huge and have various side quests you can do to earn some extra dough. The DLCs have some extra side-mission content that is specific to them so make sure you take the scenic route while playing the DLCs. While all this is good, other than the clunky feel of the game, the checkpoint system of savings is a wet blanket and curbs the exploration. If you die before you reach a checkpoint, chances are you will end up at the previous checkpoint, sometimes at the start of the mission.

The golden ticket of Frank's Big Package is all the included downloadable content. You can play the game in Capcom Heroes mode where you get to embody your favourite Capcom characters, superpowers and all. There is also the Mini Golf Mode where you play mini golf courses filed with zombies and coins. It's a fun mode with multiplayer, but it gets old after a while. The Frank Rising DLC on the other hand lets you play the game as a zombie. It's an interesting way to finish the game.

For a game that is a year old, Dead Rising 4: Frank's Big Package is still a lot of fun to play. If you haven't already played it on other platforms you might want to get it for the PS4. The DLC makes the game a lot more playable and the vast maps included in the game are a treat to explore. A must have for any zombie enthusiast.
