It’s good news for the city as the first biodiversity park Udaan opens its doors here. In a city, where greenery and space are becoming sparce owing to the mushrooming of buildings and industries, this green space will offer solace to citizens. It means that citizens can now have a peaceful stroll in a healthy environment and marvel at the beautiful plants. The park also includes miscellaneous flora with informative signage for the visitors. It consists of 65 different medical and aromatic plants and a rock garden.

This first ever biodiversity park of the city has been created by the Zensar Foundation, a charitable Trust established by Zensar Technologies along with the Pune Municipal Corporation (which has given the two-acre land for the park).

Speaking at the launch, Dr Ganesh Natarajan, Vice Chairman and CEO, Zensar Technologies said, “The Udaan Biodiversity Park aims to understand how to safeguard our fragile ecosystems amidst urbanisation. We will continue to catalyse awareness through initiatives such as these, which extend to the homes and families of not only our associates but to the community at large thereby multiplying the conservation efforts.”

Environmentalist and former mayor Vandana Chavan who was also present at the inauguration said, “There is an urgent need to protect and increase the green cover in the city, making projects like this an absolute must. The only way to combat environmental degradation is through awareness and initiatives like this will help people understand that protecting and preserving the environment is the priority for a growing city like Pune. Zensar has set an excellent example for all other organisations and I congratulate them on the launch of Udaan.”

The park has a walking area for senior citizens and is developing a playing area for kids. A waterfall and a big fish pond are the main attractions of this Biodiversity Park, which is open to all.
