A walk down a quite lane in Laxmi Industrial estate led us to a colourful glass door. Pretty lanterns hang outside the entrance of design store Peacock Life, where trees had formed a boulevard. On entering, the ancient buckets and candle holders that one might have found inside homes in the '60s caught our attention. The colourful room was stacked with home d ufffdcor items ranging from furniture to lampshades.

"Our designs are quirky and have a laidback feel. People looking for run-of-the-mill stuff have come to the wrong place," informs proprietor and interior designer Shabnam Gupta.

We couldn't help but agree. The signature sewing machine that has been converted into a table at WTF! is a perfect example of the kind of furniture and designs you might expect to find here.

"Most design stores don't have items that are priced for less than a lakh. This store was opened to bridge that gap. We have stuff priced from Rs 150 to Rs 60,000. I wanted people who understand the texture of our store to be able to buy things here," says Shabnam, who defines their designs as Indian in texture and colour, with contemporary elements thrown in.

Apart from a few antiques, they stock quirky glasses, art works, metal furniture, balloon lanterns, quirky candle stands, copper foil tables, scented candles and a wooden toilet paper holder. The antiques have been sourced by Shabnam herself during trips to various warehouses. We also found Dolchas or antique water holders converted into plant holders, iron candle holders, iron buckets, betelnut holders and actual wooden boats converted into racks. We especially loved the dining set made from recycled wood for Rs 59,000.

"Our wooden trucks with Horn Ok Please and iron and glass lanterns are very popular," says Shabnam, adding their metal cabinets painted in bright colours (Rs 20,500) to the list.

Must check out
If you drop by, don't forget to check out the blanket made of camel hair (Rs 7,800) that they claim will keep you warm in the winters and cool in the summers. Also check out their colourful sun umbrellas (Rs 2,500). If nothing else, you could buy their cheapest item: coloured glasses, which at Rs 150 each are sure to add that quirky touch to your home.
