The company will keep a small stake in a new venture built from the sale and resume operating in markets where the brand has made its mark.
According to the Verge, while the deal to sell of its personal computer division to Japan Industrial Partners (estimated to be between $391 million and $489 million) has not been sealed yet, Sony may make it official by the end of March, resulting in the company losing money on its fiscal year for the first time in two years. Meanwhile, the company’s 1,000 dedicated VAIO business staff will either work for the buyers or will be moved to other parts of Sony.
