Microsoft unveiled two new smart phones -- Lumia 640 and Lumia 640XL for Rs 11,999 and Rs 15,999 respectively. Both devices runs on Windows 8.1 phone OS with Lumia Denim update and will be upgradable to its recently launched, Windows 10 phone operating system.

Microsoft Lumia 640
The Lumia 640 comes with a 5-inch IPS LCD screen and uses 1.2GHz quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 system on chip (SoC). The screen resolution stands at 1280x720 and looks relatively better than its previous budget smart phones. It offers a pixel density of 294 ppi. The RAM in the Lumia 640 is 1GB and the internal storage stands at 8GB. A removable 2,500 mAh battery powers the device. As for connectivity, the dual-sim device comes with 2G and 3G connection, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. The main camera is 8MP with flash and comes with the Lumia camera app. It also supports external storage upto 128GB.
Microsoft Lumia 640XL
The Lumia 640XL gets a slightly larger 5.7-inch IPS LCD display, however, the resolution is same at 1280x720 thus bringing down the overall pixel density to just 259 ppi. But then it’s the standard for most devices at this price range. It runs on a 1.2GHz quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 SoC. The 640XL also get a better 13MP rear camera with f/2.0 Carl Zeiss optics, and a 5MP front-facing wide-angle camera. The battery is also slightly powerful at 3,000 mAh. However, the RAM and in-built storage remains same at 1GB and 8GB respectively. But how much of the actual memory will be available to users is not yet known. The 640XL is also a dual sim smartphone and supports 2G, 3G, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. It supports external storage upto 128GB.
