Unsatisfying mocktails, half-decent sandwiches and slow service work against this food counter inside a suburban mall

Any Mumbaikar who makes regular trips to the neighbourhood mall to shop or catch a movie or do both, knows that a trip would be incomplete without making a mandatory stop at the food court.

Several gourmet and specialty eateries have sprung up to feed this need. Salsa is no different. The latest mecca for Mediterranean cuisine offers to serve the cheesiest pizzas, juicy Donner Kebabs, Wraps, Garlic Bread, Nachos and sandwiches.

Pasta in Arrabiata

Salsa is easy to miss, unless you keep an eye out for the Caf ufffd Coffee Day outlet that it's located right next to. Seating is inside the food court itself. But be warned, service is slow.

The Chicken Tikka Tangy (Rs 100) was delightful to look at. It carried the promise of juicy chunks of chicken, cheese, potatoes and onions complemented with green chutney and mayonnaise. The downer, however, is that it neither tastes like a chicken sandwich nor a vegetable sandwich. And it could do with more chicken.

The Pasta in Arrabiata (Rs 120) lacked the traditional spicy quotient that is typically associated with the robust sauce, but despite lacking in punch, it was still quite delicious. We wish though, that they had garnished the dish with chilli flakes.

We decided on the Mint Lime Cooler (Rs 75) from their exhaustive mocktail list. The cooler arrived in a glass with muddled mint leaves and a squeeze of juice from a lemon wedge. Sadly, what tasted like grape juice was slightly off and overpowered the flavours of both the mint and the lime. Also missed the much-desired lime-wedge garnish. Disappointing!

The reason Salsa might get away with average food and slow service is because it's inside a food court. On its own, it wouldn't stand a chance.
