New Delhi: Micro blogging service Twitter has decided to remove backgrounds from 'Home' and 'Notifications' tabs. This would leave only a few pages on Twitter -- such as single tweet, list, and collections pages -- with backgrounds.

But even on these pages, the backgrounds may not last very long. "We are removing background images from the home and notifications timelines on web for all users," Twitter said in a statement.
The tweaks are part of Twitter's effort to make its product easier to use. Removing the background would make pages look less cluttered and clearer, leaving the important stuff in the middle with no distraction.
Earlier, Twitter users worldwide were left clueless early today when their timelines on the micro-blogging site suddenly went blank for a brief period, media reports said.
Twitter reportedly went down for a few minutes when timelines -- which display Twitter updates -- of many users "disappeared" across the world.
Some users even started using the #TwitterDown hashtag to report the technical problem. While the firm was yet to issue a statement on this, users went on tweeting about "missing" timelines on #TwitterDown.
