Walking the body-mind tightrope

Toning down, traditionally, has meant working on your body, cutting down fat and building muscle. Not many know that a physically fit body also leads to a sound mind. And while most gyms in the city, work on getting you perfectly flat absu00a0-- celebrity fitness trainer, Vrinda J Mehta, is promoting a different method altogether. At her gym, Vibrations: Wellness Zone, she promises to work on upping your wellness quotient.

"In my years of training and practicing yoga, I have learnt that if you manage to increase your mind power, you can effect change on your body," explains Mehta, who has also released a fitness DVD, titled I Can Make You Fit.

Mehta has devised a vibration process, which helps you work on strengthening your mind muscle. "I tell my clients, who come to me for weight-loss tips, that if you aren't positive about your self-image, you won't see results. We work on the mind first and the body follows," says Mehta, who herself battled the bulge, when at 13 she reduced from 80 kg to 50 kg. "It's very damaging to have a negative body image. I worked hard and was pushed all along by my family," she adds. Mehta's techniques involve manifestation coaching sessions,
which include diet, counselling, meditation, yoga, cardio and weight-loss training sessions.

What Mehta is preaching, has covertly been passed down to us by our ancestors as well. Ayurvedic physicians recognised that our constitution is made up of the combination of different doshas. Ashtanga yoga, for example, essentially balances the doshas. "A lot of our clients are encouraged to release their stress. By following yoga, you become more emotionally balanced," says Mehta. "While it is important to stay on top of things, a monthly vacation is like oxygen for the mind," she concludes.
