Another interesting feature has been spotted in WhatsApp's beta version on Android, shortly after the vidoe calling feature was rolled out by the Facebook owned instant-messaging app. This feature enables the streaming of shared videos, while they are downloading.
According to a report by Tech2, nothing has been announced regarding whether the feature will be rolled out to regular WhatsApp users. It is currently available on the WhatsApp beta build on Android and will work only when a video is sent by another tester of WhatsApp beta. If sent by a regular WhatsApp user, the Download button will be seen instead of the Play button overlaid on the video.
This feature available on WhatsApp beta v2.16.367 is able to stream a shared video either on Wi-Fi or mobile internet connection, while it's being downloaded in the background, and gives the user an option to decide whether he/she wishes to download the full video or not.
Similar to YouTube, which buffers whenever a video is clicked based on the bandwidth, this feature contains a Play icon instead of a Download icon, which when clicked will start playing the video, with the download occurring the background.
