Love Shack the newest beachside themed pub in town has a relaxed vibe to kick in some good times

This bamboo and thatched roof al fresco pub clearly bends to the vein of those Goa or Hawaiian styled shacks. Four floors above ground, the open to starlit sky terrace, but beach-styled pub faces the concrete jungle, the tech park pathway lit with night-lights on palm trees. We were welcomed by tipplers tripping off their feet, plastered after what seemed like a good night they must have had on a late night we dropped by.

Well, late according to our city standards. Though we were still in one of those really somber moods, this was surely a sign of an ecstatic night ahead. We were game to find out the secret behind the cool quotient of this pub.

One look around and all we could see was a hip, young party crowd, mostly in groups of fours and more, guzzling on their drinks and making banter over nightly live music. White stucco walls with four large television screens cater to cricket buffs. The raised bamboo cabanas with mattresses line up on the entire side of a wall facing the long bar.

Only a couple of days old, yet the cabanas were all taken and so were most of the tables below them. Did we hear a bell ringing on a porn spoof, named Love Shack, a gleeful raunchy flick released last year? Nah! Finding one corner quickly, before the clock would tick the Cinderella hour, we browsed through the menu, which was a simple, non-fussy, white laminated double page sheet, with a fair selection of cocktails and spirits.

The food menu that was passed on was the same as that of Tandoori Hippie, the duo brothers' Punjabi dhaba with a hippie twist, just a floor below. But we hear there will be a separate food menu with pastas and barbeques only for Love Shack soon.

The moment we called in for our Chocotini and Pomegranate Martini, we heard the cops had already begun to play spoilsport and had sent signals upstairs for people to place in their last orders for the night. Damn, the city deadline. Needless to say, the eligible bachelors Tarun Arora (of Jab We Met Bollywood movie fame) and Himesh Arora were soon scurrying around taking last orders from the swish set that formed a mix of expats and chic party animals.

The people around already seemed to have hit their midnight high. Some seemed to have found their paradise, as they stepped up to another small level, which is reserved for private booking for couples where they can cozy up or even a group of about a dozen.

There's also another section of an AC room for a non-smoking group. Ditch this zany lot, we thought and get on with our own dose. Our Chocotini (Rs 250) made from vanilla, vodka, kahlua and fresh cream was potent with the vodka overpowering the drink, yet had a tad sweet note laced with a chocolaty aftertaste.

But the bartender, we feel, could have been slightly more generous with the kahlua. The Pomegranate Martini (Rs 250) was not too sugary or too bitter with a hint of pomegranate juice spiked with vodka. The Pina Colada (Rs 325) had a distinct flavour of fresh pineapple and coconut cream spiked with Bacardi.

The Jheenga Malaika (Rs 350) are jumbo-sized prawn kebabs and are true to their name, large, flavourful chunks. Another starter you will trip on is the Achari Murg Tikka (Rs 220), bite-sized, boneless chicken chunks cooked with a tangy marinade. So if you're aching for someu00a0 shack style partying, get into the beach-bumming mode for your fix of Pina Colada.
