Youngsters take stage by storm

The Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) will be staging two plays produced by their first year students. The plays that will be staged in the city are Adhaatar and Gorakh. Adhantar has adapted in Hindi by Kailash Sengar and directed by Anniruddha Khutwad while Gorakh has been directed by Manav Kaul.

Adhaantar is based upon the cloth mill strikes of Mumbai mill workers in the backdrop of inflation, political games and unity among the sufferers. The play depicts the threats, emotions, relationships and political greed.

Director Aniruddh Khutwad says, “The play is an adaptation of Jayant Pawar’s famous Marathi play by the same name which tries to show how today’s scenario is relevant to the situation back then. The lack of employment, the side-effects of globalisation are still the same. Throughout this play, we are trying to showcase this. We have 10 first batch students acting in the play.”

The second play revolves around a poet’s life. Actor Manoj Sharma explains, “The story explores the possibility of using the emotion of love for mass awareness and mass consciousness. It is a treat for the city audience who are enthusiastic about acting. We would love to welcome all at the play to appreciate our performance.”
