When you ask Vir Das how he reacts to being dubbed as 'India's answer to Jay Leno', prompt comes the reply: "I don't think Leno is waiting for an answer, is he?" That's Vir Das for you, witty to the T.
But the man is like an onion. There are different layers to him which add comical flavour our lives. This time round, he promises to help the Capital shed tears of laughter with Alien Chutney, his one-year- old funny band which will perform in Delhi on Friday.

The Aliens have landed
Alien Chutney will talk about anything under the sun from Delhi women to the idiocy of advertising. For the band, anything is fodder which feeds this musical comic machine. "But hey, I don't do politician jokes. Don't confuse with someone who does Laloo jokes," the protest comes strongly from Das. Clearly, the man has made his mark as a comic whose wit stems from observation without relying on the onstage antics our regular breed of comics employ and he wants to keep it that way. Or perhaps a few notches up by forming a band. "Alien Chutney came up during our Walking on Broken Das days. Kaizad Gherda and I used to do two songs at the end which became its highlight, so we decided to get into the bigger sphere," says Das. Now the man seems to be really enjoying it. "Why not? It's a different space. We are giving the audience comedy as well as music. That is gratifying as a performer," he adds.
