The Sawai Gandharva Bhimsen Mahotsav, one of the biggest festivals of classical music in India, has taken an interactive turn from this year onward. The music festival will screen short films on legends like Pandit Jasraj and conduct special talks with masters including Dr Arvind Thatte. <img alt="" src="http://images.mid-day.com/2013/dec/12-Ravishankar.jpg" style="width: 500px; height: 402px;" /> The festival has organised a special photo exhibition on late Pandit Ravi Shankar &ldquo;The festival has added two new ealements -- the Shadja, a short film festival on topics related to Indian Classical music and Antaranga, an interactive session with acclaimed artists and personalities related to Classical music,&rdquo; shares Srinivas Joshi, founder member of Sawai Gandharva Bhimsen Mahotsav. <img alt="" src="http://images.mid-day.com/2013/dec/03-MS-Gopalkrishnan.jpg" style="width: 500px; height: 659px;" /> MS Gopalakrishnan The idea is to facilitate a dialogue between the artists and fans of the Indian Classical music. &ldquo;Shadja will feature six short films and documentaries starting with a short film on Pandit Jasraj on Day One at the festival. The rest of the days, it will screen short films on Begum Akhtar, Swarhanga Gangubai Hangal, and Kathak, followed by a film on Girija Devi, and the feature film Shruti and Grace on the final day of the event,&rdquo; he added. Antaranga will have special interactive session with veteran personalities like Pandit Satyasheel Deshpande and Dr Arvind Thatte, a veteran harmonium player. Says Joshi, &ldquo;Day One will see noted music scholar Mangesh Waghmare interview Ustad Nishat Khan, followed by a special talk between Shriniwas Joshiand Pandit Satyasheel Deshpande on Day Two of the event.&rdquo; Deshpande, who is also receiving the Vatsalabai Joshi award this year, will talk about his musical journey journey. &ldquo;I&rsquo;m happy to receive the award, and more so, at a place where Classical music is appreciated and promoted,&rdquo; admitted Deshpande. The final day at the festival will witness veteran harmonium player Dr Arvind Thatte deliver a special lecture on Shrutinchi Sankhya kiti (what are the number of notes in music), added Joshi. The Sawai Gandharva Bhimsen Mahotsav has organised a special photo exhibition paying tribute to late Pandit Ravi Shankar and late Pandit MS Gopalakrishnan. It has also organised a display of facial expressions of various artistes created on stainless steel. Special buses for Sawai visitors Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) is making arrangements of buses for music lovers. There will be four different routes and each shall leave from Ramnabaugh after the festival gets over.
