Aditi: Why are we even arguing? It's plain and simple: Superman's cooler that's why his debut comic -- the Holy Grail of comic books -- fetched as much as it did. Superman just beat Batman hollow.
Sowmya: That's probably because the buyers were looking up at the sky to figure if it was a weird-looking bird or an embarrassingly loud aeroplane and missed Batman at the wheels of the drool-worthy Batmobile, the meanest, boldest, most stylish gizmo to swoosh along on wheels, which, FYI, he had a hand in building.
Aditi: Superman does not need a vehicle; he can simply fly between galaxies without having to stop to catch his breath. Plus with his superhuman speed, he'd win a race even before Batman could get the Batmobile started.
Sowmya: Sure he can, because he happened to be born on Krypton, where gravity was a lot stronger than here on Earth. So he decided to show off his prowess here on Earth, where flying is the preserve of birds.
Batman, on the other hand, is a masked vigilante who didn't have to take on this alter ego to fight evil and put his own life at risk. He's a real hero, not a pumped-up blue and red horror of an alien
Aditi: Superman is who he is. He does not need to become someone else to fight crime. Quentin Tarantino has the best answer for this argument: "Superman didn't become Superman. Superman was born Superman... His alter ego is Clark Kent. His outfit with the big red 'S', that's the blanket he was wrapped in as a baby when the Kents found him. Those are his clothes. What Kent wears -- the glasses, the business suit -- that's the costume. That's the costume Superman wears to blend in with us. Clark Kent is how Superman views us. And what are the characteristics of Clark Kent? He's weak, he's unsure of himself, he's a coward. Clark Kent is Superman's critique on the whole human race."
And in any case if it came to a head to head fight, Superman would totally kick Batman's butt. Even his lame powers like Freeze Breath and Super Memory are enough for Batman. Let's not even talk about Super Speed or Heat Vision.
Sowmya: Umm, have you taken a look at Batman's gadgets, and his ability to use his brain to outwit opponents? In case you haven't noticed, Superman's brawn is all he's got -- they probably didn't make any grey cells up on Krypton.
