Will films from the North East get the right exposure at the International Film Festival of India

For the first time in 44 years since its inception, the International Film Festival of India will host an independent segment for the films from the Northeast. Not everyone, however, is on the celebratory bandwagon. Kareena N Gianani speaks to the region's storytellers who welcome the decision but are cautious about what the move will really mean for the states' fledgling cinematic efforts amid a virtually non-existent support system otherwise

Mizoram is perhaps best known for its sweeping stretches of bamboo and an upcoming, no-holds-barred rock scene. What no one really talks about is its cinema, because, well, there has been nothing quintessentially 'Mizo' about the films produced in the state yet. Poor imitations of Hollywood and Bollywood films starring enthusiastic but untrained locals abounded in Mizoram. That was until Mapuia Chawngthu entered the scene.


Khawnlung Run, a historical film, is the first Mizo film to be screened at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) at Goa between November 20-30
