Dear Diana, I'm a 23-year-old dental student. I'm writing on behalf of my 21-year-old brother who is too shy to pen down his feelings
He’s gay but not courageous enough to come out in the open. I know this because we share a close bond since our childhood days. However, our family is orthodox and I don’t know what will happen if he tells our parents that he is a homosexual. In fact, he has a boyfriend too but they act like they are friends in public. I believe our parents will be outraged like anything on knowing the truth about his sexual orientation.

Dear Confused,
First you need to realise that he is still the person he has always been. Nothing has changed about him and he can’t change who he is. So keep calm and gradually break the news to your family. They will but naturally be shocked unless they have experienced tell-tale signs. It will take a long while for them to come to terms with it. So do not mess things by saying anything and aggravating the situation. Also, it is not a decision to be gay. He was born that way... keep that in mind.u00a0
