I don't want to do medicine or engineering

Dear Diana,
I am a 15-year-old girl. I have just passed the X standard. My results are not very good. My parents insist that I take science and go in for medicine or engineering. They feel that to get higher positions in a company you have to have an engineering degree as a normal graduate's chances are less. But I do not like chemistry, physics or biology. I would like to take up arts. How do I convince them that even with arts after XII, I can go in for BMM or BMS and after graduation or post-graduation can do an MBA and get a good position in an reputed organisation.

Dear Sefra,
You face a problem that several of your age group people suffer from. As a first step, you need to have a long talk with your parents. They may have their reasons why you should pursue science or engineering, but you have your reasons. Explain to them that it is not necessary that only those who follow these two vocations end up with fat pay packets. These are considered the traditional professions, but nowadays there are several other vocations that are equally and even more paying. Tell your mum and dad that even if you pursue their choice, you will not give your 100 per cent as you feel forced to do it. But if you take up a stream that you like, you will enjoy studying it too. There are several arts graduates who have done well for themselves. Look around and give them these examples. Eventually it has to be your call. You are the one going to study and not them.

My husband snores loudly!

Dear Diana,

I have been married for six months. My problem is that my husband snores so loudly that I can't sleep. It is proving to be disturbing and often I sleep in another room. How do I help him get rid of his habit?
-u00a0Sumitra

Dear Sumitra,

You need to decipher the reasons why he snores. It could be due to nasal problems or due to an allergy. Consult a doctor to find the exact reason. Surgery may not be always necessary. There are other natural remedies, too, you can combat his snoring problem with. Also, there are several self-help books available. Hope you have a good night's sleep soon.

Yesterday once more!

Dear Diana,

I fell in love with a guy at the work place. For a few months, we dated and then we split. We just drifted apart. Both of us moved on and changed our jobs. After three years, I bumped into my ex at a railway station and we began chatting again. It was as if nothing had happened. It was yesterday once more! Can I rekindle my romance with my ex again? He is still single.
-TK

Dear TK,

He's single, you are single, so why not? At that time you'll were younger and immature. Now over the years, both are wiser. Give him another chance. I am sure his reason to stay away was due to work reasons. He did not want to commit to anyone at that early stage of his career. Now that he is settled things are difference. It appears that fate willed that both of you meet again.
