Dear Diana,
I'm a middle-aged guy who grew up with parents who fought bitterly. I was the only child. I won't be exaggerating if I said I wasn't nurtured well. And today, with both my mom and dad no longer there, I wonder whether my single status has something to do with the kind of upbringing I had. I have been a loser in human relationships be it with friends or love interests. I keep asking myself whether I should blame everything on my childhood and move on. Am I making sense here?

Dear Alok,
You can't change your past but you can decide your future. What has happened has happened but the scars remain. As you lived in a hostile environment, you do not know what it means to live in a loving, caring and sharing atmosphere. But it is not too late to make amends. Begin on a clean slate, do not be judgemental and let bygones be bygones. Do not carry your baggage in your relationships. I know there will be this concern that everything goes well and you might overdo or try to be extra nice, but instead just be yourself. Remain calm and let things be.
