Dear Diana,
I'm a middle-aged housewife and wish to adopt a child but my husband and his family members are opposing the idea. We tried having a baby but things haven't worked out as planned. With such a background, I believe adoption would be the right decision. But my ma-in-law, in particular, is totally against inviting an outsider into the fold. I can only cringe at such insensitivity but the ground reality of not even my husband supporting me is emotionally defeating. I see a fulfilling life ahead with a child who doesn't necessarily have to be ours.u00a0

Dear Yati,
I can understand your predicament. But this is something that needs the encouragement and support of all your dear and near ones. Without their help, it will be tough raising a child all by yourself. First, you need to explain to your husband why the need to adopt. You state that you have tried having a baby but have been unsuccessful. Only if your hubby understands, he can then knock sense in the rest. Remember your thinking is different from them, it is not easy to accept someone else's child as your own. You may have that mindset but not your folks. There are many couples who have adopted babies to emotionally enrich their lives. But till you don't have your husband's support it will be futile. It will also cause a strain in your married life.
