According to a survey conducted by Jim Forward, of Warner Leisure Hotels, one third men aged between 51 to 55 revealed that they surprised their partners with just the right king of gesture like a champagne.

Twenty eight per cent had written touching poems, while other 48 per cent took their better halves to spontaneous picnics or days out, the study found.

"When a man reaches 53 he is more likely to make an effort after blundering through the early years of his," The Sun quoted Forward, as saying.
