While the men said they would feel guiltier having sex without emotion rather than love without sex, according to news reports.

Fisher said: "If someone assumes their partner is most concerned with the same form of infidelity they are most concerned about they could make false inferences leading to feelings of guilt."

The study also found women, rather than men, would be more likely to leave if they found out their partner was sleeping with someone else.
