People who help others are more desirable for the opposite gender, have more sexual partners and more frequent sex, a new study recently conducted by two Canadian universities has found.

800 people were interviewed by researchers regarding their relationships and propensity for helping others. The results were quite interesting.
The research team found that, altruists -- people unselfishly concerned for or devoted to the welfare of others -- were found to have greater success at dating and sex. The researchers believe that altruism evolved in our species, in part, because it serves as a signal of other underlying desirable qualities, which helps individuals reproduce.
Some psychologists are of the belief that, altruism may translate into real mating success in Western populations, that altruists have more mates than non-altruists. The findings support previous studies on food sharing by hunters, which found that men who hunt and share meat enjoy greater reproductive success.

A research team from a leading Australian university discovered in a study that, girls or women are more likely to nominate empathic boys or men as their friends. The study, which was basically conducted on adolescent males and females especially students, found that boys high in cognitive empathy attracted an average of 1.8 more girl friendships than low empathy counterparts.
