The Amritanjali festival will feature a Bharatanatyam performance and a jugalbandi of Carnatic and Hindustani music
Danseuse Shashikala Ravi, a noted Bharatanatyam exponent and founder of Amritanjali school of Bharatanatyam, will be presenting the Amritanjali festival in the city. The festival will feature a thematic Bharatanatyam performance, titled Jai Shri Krishna, by the students of Amritanjali.

On the occasion, they will also release the DVD Tyaga Brahmanjali and the event will feature a jugalbandi of Carnatic and Hindustani music by Pandit Prakash Sontakke (Bengaluru) on Hindustani vocals and electro Hawain guitar, Vidwan TAS Mani (Bengaluru) on the mridangam, Vidwan Shivkumar (Mumbai) on the Carnatic violin and Pandit Aditya Kalyanpur (Mumbai) on the tabla.
“This is the first time that this festival will be held and I am excited about it. The festival was organised to promote classical dance and music. An early start in this field is always good as it takes a long time to learn traditional forms of dance.

It is easier to learn western dance yet a lot of students prefer to learn Bharatanatyam. The right age to start training in dance is from the age of six. The right timing is the key to get ahead in any walk of life,” says Shashikala Ravi.
Students of Amritanjali are taught the dance forms in an authentic manner. Constant efforts are made to make the teaching effective and interesting without compromising on the traditional aspects.
Shashikala Ravi has recently choreographed and released a DVD titled The Dance of Shiva, which explores some of the cosmic dances of Lord Nataraja.
