Chief Knowledge Officer

A new corporate executive is emerging in savvy companies -- the CKO (Chief Knowledge Officer). Just what this person will do differs from industry to industry. Similar in functionality to a CLO (Chief Learning Officer), the CKO's duties can vary from recommending whether a company should buy, sell, or make its technologies, to determining where technology is going and where new competitors may arise. But there is no better example of the need for a CKO than the necessity for some companies to manage decline skillfully. Says R Ramkumar, corporate marketing and research VP of IT services major Cognizant Technology Solutions, "Ideally, a CKO should be like a senior manager who is on back-slapping terms with the business and processes of the organisation, but never a new hire."u00a0

First Impressions Executive
In the title inflation of the new economy, the secretaries are called anything from office assistants to administrative coordinators while a receptionist becomes a front desk executive or, better still, First Impressions Executive (FIE). Apart from the ego boost it gives the employee -- usually female -- the job description and profile haven't changed much over the decade. For instance, a recent First Impression Executive (FIE) advert by a consultancy firm ran like this: Wanted: "A graduate with a pleasing personality and excellent communication skills" to "receive phone calls and personally interact with outsiders".

Customer Experience Enhancement Specialist
Often, boring jobs are disguised under a complex word jargon, as titles get too big for the blue-collar task. What a telephone operator was in 1999, a customer voice executive is in 2009. The sky is the limit for the mind of the creative designation generator. Imagine the glory an overworked shop assistant feels when he hands out a visiting card that reads Customer Experience Enhancement Specialist!
