Their catchy song #Selfie has stuck in the heads of Electronic Dance Music lovers. American DJ duo, The Chainsmokers will perform in Mumbai this week and spin their best at the Supersonic Arcade concert, and at the festival in Goa in December. Alex Pall, one half of the duo, speaks to Dhara Vora

Ready for a #Selfie?

Andrew Taggart and Alex Pall of The Chainsmokers

Q. What led you to create the song #Selfie?
A. It was a funny idea! We wanted to make a song about basic b#$@hes in the club, and use the idea of selfie as the centrepiece. We made it in an hour and thought it was really funny. We showed it to a few people who felt it was unique. Not everyone loved it, but we said what the heck and put it out!

Q. Are you selfie addicts too? Name one selfie you would really want to take on your trip to India.
A. Hahaha! No we don’t care about selfies. We take them but the song isn’t about selfies. That said, we don’t mind taking them with fans. After all, we made a song called Selfie! Since we will be in India soon, taking a selfie at the Taj Mahal would be cool or in bed with the Victoria’s Secret model, Candice Swanepoel.

Q. Post #Selfie, tell us a bit about your current projects.
A. Kanye is out, and it’s doing really well! People love the message and it’s cool that our fans are connecting with it. It’s a great transition from #Selfie, to music that is more in line with the sound we want to be known for. Beyond this, we are working with a number of artistes we admire and are on the rise. These projects vary from the Big Room feel to more emotional Indie songs.

Q. Are there any Indian artistes you plan to work with?
A. We did a track with Priyanka Chopra, a few years back. We would love to work with her again; she is so incredible!

Q. What do you plan to do on your trip to India?

A. Besides showing India how to party, we will try yummy Indian food. Seeing a few landmarks would also be cool since I studied Southeast Art in school. I will look forward to making tons of new friends.
