Violinist Ji Young Lim of South Korea, winner of Belgium's 2015 Queen Elisabeth Competition, is here to showcase her skills. The 20-year-old gifted musician talks about her rigour and aspirations

Q. From what age did you start playing the violin?
A. When I was seven years old, I started playing piano and other instruments just like other children in Korea. Among these, I liked the violin very much because it was small enough to hold and play around. I loved it. I was just happy to play with it. At the age of 11 and 12, I considered to become a professional violinist. I practised seriously and carefully, according to the teacher’s lessons. I have studied with professor Kim, Nam Yun who also thinks that practice is most important and essential for musicians. I think I am quite sincere.

Q. Who are your idols?
A.I respect all great musicians but I also respect some lesser-known artistes who have uploaded their performance videos on YouTube. I always learn something from both amateurs and professionals. I am just starting my career and hope to meet all great musicians from now.
Q. What are your expectations from your India visit?
A.I hope to meet great people, so that I could share my experience and music on stage all together. Also, I hope to feel and experience various cultures of India from the visit. I am sure it would inspire my music later on.
Q. Have you listened to Indian music before?
A.Unfortunately, I haven't heard any Indian (typical) music, but I hope to listen to it soon.
Q. Where all do you wish to travel with your music?
A. It might be too early to wish or expect that my music would do something. I hope to share my playing on stage with people. I would like to hear from the audience what they expect of me on stage.
