Apart from regular Zumba, Pal is also a licensed trainer for Aqua Zumba, Zumba kids, Zumba Gold, Zumba Sentao, Zumba Toning and Zumba Step. She has conducted workshops across the world, spreading awareness about Zumba..Following are six misconceptions about the increasingly popular fitness program, that Sucheta Pal busts:

Myth #1: Anyone can teach Zumba
One of the most popular myths about Zumba is that anyone can teach the exercise form. Sucheta clarifies that Zumba can only be taught by a trained and licensed fitness instructor. The list of qualified trainers near you can be found on the site Zumba.com.

Myth #2: Zumba fitness is only for dancers
Being a style of exercise that has components of various dance forms, there is a perception that only good dancers can reap the benefits of Zumba. Citing the example of her 65-year old mother-in-law who is enjoying her fitness journey through Zumba, Sucheta states that any person, of any gender or age group and irrespective of their dancing capabilities, can actively engage in Zumba.

Myth #3: There is only one kind of Zumba fitness program
Pal, who is herself trained in different forms of Zumba, throws light on the various styles of the excercise that everyone can try. She mentions aqua Zumba, Zumba Toning, Zumba Sentao and other popularly practised styles as examples.

Myth #4: I will gain weight after I leave Zumba
A common concern that people aspiring to be fit have, is the weight gain that comes after exercise is stopped. Explaining the logic behind the occurrence, Sucheta says that if one stops Zumba or any other form of exercise, a slight weight gain is expected because the person tends to eat more than what he or she is burning. The solution, she says, lies in watching what you are eating.

Myth #5: Zumba is just a type of dance
Sucheta completely throws this myth out of the park. She specifies that Zumba is a fitness workout and not a form of dance. However, it includes components from styles of dance such as Salsa, Merengue, Cumbia and Reggaeton.

Myth #6: If I'm overweight I can't join Zumba
Size is not an issue explains Sucheta. Zumba can be of benefit to everyone despite their shape and size. She also adds that Zumba instructors themselves are of various sizes. A regular and sincere person can easily see a change in their body within three months says the Zumba specialist.
