Gajar halwa: A favourite for many, gajar halwa is essential during Diwali. It is just about time when winter is setting in and we are lured towards the smell. It is made by placing grated carrots in a pot containing a specific amount of water, milk and sugar and then cooking while stirring regularly.
Kaju Katli: It is the quintessential Diwali sweet and is one of the most popular giveaways during Diwali. Barfi is often, but not always, made by thickening milk with sugar and other ingredients. Kaju means 'cashew'.
Kheer: One thing which you absolutely cannot resist this Diwali season is this creamy concoction of milk, dry fruits and rice. Kheer is usually flavoured with green cardamom powder and is garnished with slivered almonds and pistachio nuts.
Mysore Pak: This sweet originated in Mysore Palace but has become a favourite for many. It is made up of gram flour, sugar and ghee and is one of the few desserts which melts in your mouth.
Phirni: It is considered similar to kheer, but the difference is that while firni is made from ground rice, rice kheer is made from whole rice. It is usually served cold in earthen bowls.
Gur Halwa: Gur or jaggery is a powerhouse of energy and is an essential sweet during winters. Many relish it on Diwali too.
