Thanks to the pollution in Mumbai, it is tough for stargazers to spot a twinkling beauty or two in the sky. But for the times you do get to witness an impeccable starry sky, capturing the same on lens feels surreal. To enable amateur photographers to learn the craft of photographing the marvels of the night sky, DCP Expeditions LLP, a travel photography company, is organising a workshop on capturing star trails, a painstaking but supremely rewarding form of photography.

The overnight session will be held at a retreat about 1.5 hours from Pune, and aims to engage photography enthusiasts in a conversation on star trails photography by capturing the night sky. Akshay Buche, a techie by day and an avid photographer by night, will share his expertise on star trails photography that includes clicking constellations, meteor showers and other celestial elements. The latter half of the workshop will focus on light painting, a visually enthralling technique of night photography. While the cost of the experience includes stay, dinner and travelling expenses from Pune to the retreat and back, participants will need to carry their own cameras and equipment.

"The night sky is fascinating, especially around this time of the year when we can observe clear skies. Capturing that or simply spending a night observing the world above is an experience," says Buche.
