Here`s a chance to let your creative juices flow, and also learn about a new craft form. The Japanese art of Amigurumi is a method of using crochet to create soft toys. Vile Parle-based organisation, Small World, is conducting an Amigurumi workshop for fans of knitting who are keen to learn the art of using crochet to create stuffed toys. It also makes for a suitable gift for your loved ones.
Saurav Arya, founder of the organisation, explains the concept of this Japanese art, and how it is different from crochet. He says, “Amigurumi is the Japanese art of knitting or crocheting small, stuffed yarn creatures — usually animals, dolls, or whimsical objects. Think of them as cute, squishy plushies made entirely from yarn. Amigurumi uses crochet, but it’s focused on creating 3D figures. While traditional crochet might be used for blankets or clothes, Amigurumi is all about sculpting adorable characters and objects with yarn, stuffing, and stitching.”
