Approach your canvas with new synergies and expressions

Body, mind and art

Shailee Mehta and Aditi Kashyap

What influences your understanding of your body? Is your perception different from what it actually is? Artist Shailee Mehta says, “Drawing the body has been an academic exercise. We want to move away from that towards an expressive approach.” Mehta and fellow artist Aditi Kashyap from studio Baadal Ghar will host the first of a five-weekend workshop series, The Seeing Hand by G5A Academy, a space that designs learning experiences for artists to enhance critical thought. The two-day workshop extends from the artists’ practices that challenge propagating views of the female body in pop culture to take back agency through self-representation. It will incorporate sensory exercises to usher in awareness of one’s body and its relation to the surroundings. “It’s about understanding your body before you proceed to drawing a body. We don’t want to treat it like an object but want to be conscious in our approach to making art,” Kashyap signs off.
