For the first edition of its new storytelling podcast, G5A is looking for diverse narratives that capture the essence of Mumbai

City on my mind

Mumbai is the theme of the season

With the podcasting industry growing by leaps and bounds, city-based cultural hub, G5A Foundation for Contemporary Culture is set to get its own. Titled ‘the things we carry’, the oral storytelling podcast will capture stories that reflect the contemporary and diverse voices of India, shares Ishan Benegal, associate artistic director, G5A.

Currently, the team is inviting submissions for powerful text-based stories. “Our team will shortlist the stories and work with the writers and established performers to convert them into an impactful podcast. We will be producing the stories at the Black Box at G5A, and hosting them on our website. Come October, we should have nine exciting stories,” he adds. The podcast is a result of their collaboration with BNP Paribas India Foundation. “This project gave us a chance to create a space for honing the craft of storytelling and encouraging honest voices,” he explains.

In the first edition, the theme is Mumbai. About the theme, Benegal, a writer-photographer, elaborates, “How any normal day in Mumbai inherently demands a certain level of resilience, and yet amidst the frustration, there are moments which make the city endearing. From the food and the local markets to meeting the best minds — these aspects create a wonderful tapestry for stories that take us on a journey.”
