To help menstruating frontline workers, a pan-India non-profit has launched an online menstrual cup donation drive.

For female healthcare workers working on the frontlines in PPE kits and other protective gear, changing sanitary napkins every few hours can be a real challenge. Titli Foundation has decided to offer a solution on fix this problem. Founded in May 2020, this pan-India non-profit organisation is committed to promoting the usage of menstrual cups and breaking the taboo surrounding its use. “One of our co-founders, Spandan Chaturvedi, came up with the idea of helping out the frontline workers who are in PPE gear for hours. The rest of us jumped at the idea,” shares Alankrita Pandey, founder of Titli Foundation.

The drive, initially introduced in Delhi, has now been extended to Mumbai. “After the responses from Delhi, we realised the great need for it in Mumbai as well,” she reveals. Pandey and her team of seven co-founders have been handling calls, verifying sources and donating menstrual cups, seven days a week. “Once a healthcare worker approaches us, we verify their identity with their ID card. After we get their address, we send it across that day itself through platforms like Dunzo or Wefast. We have volunteers in Delhi and Mumbai. Our volunteer packs up the cup and gives it to the delivery person from either of two services, and they deliver it across these two cities,” she explains.

The responses have been pouring in for the team, with influencers and publications adding them to lists of COVID-19 resources. Naturally, the need to generate funds to sustain their donation drives has increased significantly. Pandey adds, “Because of the great response, we’ve been trying to generate more funds to continue these drives. For now, the healthcare workers who are approaching us have heard of cups, and have made up their mind to use them, too.”
