A singer-songwriter whose songs talk about feelings has launched a new track that mixes pop with house music

There was a time before the 1990s, when pop music consisted of songs that contained organic instruments like the drums, guitars and keyboards. But the digital revolution post 2000 infused electronic elements into the genre, giving it a modern twist.

Twenty-two-year-old singer-songwriter Suhasini Khattar’s new track, Starting a fire, is evidence of this paradigm shift. She teamed up with electronic music producers TRVP RIOT and TZEJAX for the song, a small bit in which reminded this writer of Closer by The Chainsmokers, another prime example of the union of pop and electronica.

Khattar’s song talks about self-sabotage, where a girl warns a guy that even though she is in love with him, she is like a ticking bomb that will explode at any moment. So, it’s best to stay away. “The track’s a little angry, it’s a bit toxic,” she tells us. Her previous single, Run to you, was more in the organic, pre-2000s mould. But with Starting a fire, the Delhi resident has kindled the flames of the modern era.
