This is your chance to be an oenophile just for a day where you get to explore the vineyards of Nashik and savour a relaxed meal in a picturesque location

Grape escape

Nashik’s vineyards

As the country opens up and people look for new ways to get away from their lockdown blues, Nashik’s vineyards make for a fun, engaging escape, especially if understanding the art and science of wines are your thing. “The idea is to introduce people into the culture of wine-making and the many processes that go with it. We visit all the important venues known for wine produce in Nashik and provide for a day well spent,” says guide Stefanie Pinto, of tour organisers, Trikon. The tour takes attendees to Sula, Soma and York Winery where people can taste of the wine options that are on offer.

Participants can enjoy various locations within these vineyards along with Pinto as they explore the various aspects of wine making. “Stomping is a main attraction at this tour but it is completely based on availability. It is dependent on the season and the stomped grapes are largely used as fertiliser for the fields rather than as an ingredient in wine-making. This is a distinct feature of Indian wines as others tend to use the stomped grapes as part of the process,” she reveals.

The tour takes the attendees to Soma Vineyards for tasting and stomping, Sula Vineyards for a quick session on wine-making and manufacturing processes and to York Winery for a scenic lunch amidst a beautiful lakeside. “York Winery is calm and quiet as it is not as popular as Sula or Soma, but it makes for a very good lunch stopover due to its menu,” shares Pinto. She also shares that all participants need to follow government-ordered sanitary protocols against Covid-19. The bus will be deep-cleaned before the trip and wearing a mask is compulsory for the entire duration of the tour. The group can also avail of souvenirs and vineyard merchandise. Each trip consists of around 20-25 people. The organisers conduct two-three tours that begin this month and continue till February.
