Mumbai on your plate

Latika Khosla, co-founder and director of design

"Our homes are an extension of who we are, a special place filled with treasures close to our heart,” believes Latika Khosla, co-founder and director of design and colour strategy studio Freedom Tree. And considering Mumbai is the home where the Mahalaxmi-based studio was born and has thrived, their homeware collection Mombaye City is a tribute to the Maximum City.

Launched last month, the monochromatic line boasts of designs that date back to Khosla’s first brand, Takete Maluma, in the ’90s. From the Art Deco and Victorian architectural styles of south Bombay to new-age buildings, the collection is heavily inspired by the ever-evolving Mumbai streets and skyline.

The handcrafted dinnerware and serveware line comprise dinner plates, side plates, rice platter, straight servers, serving bowls, cereal bowls, coffee mugs, round small bowls, butter dishes, kebab trays and nut trays.

“Born in our design studio in the industrial heart of Mumbai, many of our prints and patterns are drawn from the streets around us. Mombaye City is a graphic love letter to the city’s icons and all that inspires us here,” shares Khosla, adding, “Black, white and fresh, the collection imbues the boldness of the city it pays homage to.”
