Although the infection manifests differently across individuals, there is no denying that testing positive for COVID-19 is an experience that most won’t forget. The urge to experiment or try new things, and even treat yourself after going through a grueling experience is only natural. Though what actor Kartik Aaryan did is anything but ordinary. After recovering from the virus, he gifted himself a Lamborghini Urus worth Rs 4.5 crore. Mumbaikars who recovered from the virus cherished that moment in their own special way, too. Four individuals share their accounts.

It’s showtime!
I had COVID-19 in December last year. For two weeks, I was confined to a room. And since I was asymptomatic, I was busy working on the Kala Ghoda Festival virtually. But I didn’t shop big because I felt like the less I have, the better. I did a lot of clearing and cleaning during isolation. But I love the movies and the minute I could step out — it was really like being in a jail for two weeks — I rushed to the theatre and watched two films back to back. The first was Christopher Nolan’s Tenet, which had been on top of my list for a while, and the second was Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 1984. There were only four people in the theatre.

Retreat to calm
I tested positive in February. Both my parents and my staff were affected as well. Although I was very sick, I managed to avoid hospitalisation as I had to stay at home and care for my parents. The entire ordeal was quite overwhelming, and I told myself that I need to do something to make myself feel better. So I contacted a friend who had moved to Madurai for a few months. She invited me to spend time with her for a few days, and also take a trip to Kodaikanal. I prefer backpacking trips but for the first time, I wanted to gift myself some luxury, and be pampered. So we only stayed in five-stars on this relaxing escape.

Quick beauty fix
I was diagnosed with COVID-19 in March. During my weeks of quarantine, I was stuck at home with nothing to do. I didn’t have much energy to get out of bed, dress up and do things I enjoyed. After my quarantine ended, I really wanted to feel like myself again, so I went online and ordered a whole lot of new cosmetics, and it truly lifted up my spirits, and made me feel better. During my isolation, I also started tie-dying a lot of my t-shirts to keep myself distracted. I bought the materials online. I enjoyed it quite a lot; in fact, I’m thinking of selling a few of my creations on Instagram.

Some green and grub
In October, I was hospitalised for a week due to the virus, followed by a 15-day quarantine at home. In the hospital, I saw people dying in front of my eyes but the quarantine period was even more hectic. I couldn’t even bring myself to water my plants and they died, so the first thing I did was revamped my green corner. I was also craving momos, so I made them at home for the first time, and tried out new recipes, too. But what COVID-19 compelled me to do is to try eating oats, which I had never tried in my life. I started including it in my diet for a healthy routine.
