The word star-struck means different things to different people. We all know how it holds value for the ardent cinemagoer, but it is equally significant for admirers of the sky. And in honour of this second category of ‘fans’, tours and travel platform Adventure Geek is hosting a star-gazing camp over the weekend. The camp welcomes all kinds of interested participants — folks with prior experience and amateurs, too. About the idea behind this camp, founder Vinay Gupta shares, “It will be an informative offering. We plan to bring together people who are genuinely curious about the sky. Once attendees reach Saphale station, they will be directed to the location by our guides. The camp is well-suited for children.”

Gupta adds that the season is favourable to catch a glimpse of the Milky Way and the evening star, Venus, and Jupiter along with its four moons. “Those who live in Mumbai aren’t accustomed to seeing the sky clearly. These sights are sure to wow them,” he assures.

After introductory exchanges and a photography session at the camp site, workshops will be held on identifying West Sky objects, Cassiopeia and Ursa Major. These sessions will be followed by an astronomy awareness video programme. Post-dinner, formal and informal interactions will continue until dawn. Gupta adds that participants can choose to stay up and watch stars throughout the night or they can take power naps in between. While the stargazing equipment will be provided by the organisers, they request participants to not wear any valuables to the camp.
