It’s hard to imagine opera without its basic components - a chorus, aria, acts, etc. But the Goliath of all spaces for the theatrical form, London’s Royal Opera House, has pushed the boundaries of the genre with a new series called 8bit. With eight, short experimental pieces, it looks at opera in a more contemporary setting. I particularly loved Katie Mitchell’s short film Heal You, themed on the vaccination rollout. Tune in, especially if mainstream opera isn’t your cup of tea.
