Additional District Sessions Judge Arvind Upadhaye convicted Nitu under Section 302 (murder) of IPC, according to government counsel Yashpal Singh.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on the convict. Nitu poured kerosene on his wife Pinki and set her ablaze when she opposed his drinking habit at Hasanpur village on January 16, 2010.
Pinki was rushed to a hospital where she gave her statement before a magistrate. The couple were married in 2007. During the trial, all eyewitnesses turned hostile. But the court found the husband guilty on the basis on the dying declaration of the victim.
